Gopal who completed the PADI Advanced Diver Course a few days ago with us here on Koh Phangan decided to become a PADI Dive Pro. Originally he wanted to go to Malaysia to do the Divemaster Course but he liked the diving here, the team and the atmosphere in the dive center so much that he signed up for the course with us.
However, some courses are to be completed before he can enter into the Divemaster training program. The next step on the ladder to become a dive pro is the EFR course (Emergency First ResponsePrimary and Secondary Care).
This was a good opportunity for our newly certified EFR Instructor Dor to get experience. Under the supervision of our experienced Instructor Richard, he has conducted the course with Gopal.
The fun part about Emergency First Response training is learning serious medical emergency response skills in an upbeat, positive environment. You gain the confidence that you are prepared to help in an emergency. And there was really lots of fun involved in this course.
Here are some examples of what Gopal has learned in the course:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) CPR and rescue breathing at the layperson level
- AED (automated external defibrillator) use
- Preventing and caring for shock
- Spinal injury management
- Use of barriers to reduce disease transmission risk
- Basic firstaid and first aid kit considerations
First aid and CPR are good skills for anyone involved in adventure sports – just in case. And Gopal needs these skills for his next course, the PADI Rescue Diver course.
We’ll keep you up to date here about Gopal’s training to become a PADI Divemaster
